Beta Readers

Hi everyone,

I have a question that’s been haunting me for the past few days. Has anyone here tried sending a manuscript to Beta readers? What are the pros and cons? And how can I find readers I can trust?

Please feel free to share your experience in the comments below. I have a finished manuscript that I’m editing line by line now. I don’t want to over edit. So I’m hoping to be able to get some opinions on it.

  1. I would recommend starting with local writing groups. If you can find any, start meeting people and see if you can find people interested in reading your work. If you can find a critique group to join, or enough people with whom you can start one of your own, better still. Also, do your research in that get to know them and what it is they like reading/writing.

That’s for free beta readers. As for editors who pay fees for types of services, if you want to do that, again, do your research and look over many before making a decision. Often, they’ll give you free samples to get a sense of what they do.

    1. I’m having a hard time someone writing or reading English here locally. Our 2nd language in Lebanon is French.

      2. It’s better if it’s not online, right?

      3. Personally, I think in-person is better, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find some good ones online too. I’m sure there are. Again, just do you research and try to get to know them first.
